Royal Academy of Music visits Cabot!

Every Monday we have been having singing lessons with Nonny from Bristol Plays Music. This week we were extremely excited as Andrea from the Royal Academy of Music, traveled all the way from London to come and listen to our fantastic singing. She said that she was very impressed!

Friction investigation

Today we investigated the effect of friction on different surfaces. We used wood, felt, silk, carpet and sandpaper to see if they would effect the speed of the toy car. We found that wood had the least friction with the toy car and carpet had the most friction.

Anti-bullying week

This week, we celebrated Anti-bullying week. On Tuesday, we all wore odd socks to recognise that we are all different. We also did an activity on kindness. We each thought about someone in our class and wrote down the kind things that they do for us on a leaf. When we gave each person their leaf it made them smile. We recognised the importance of being kind to each other and how positive messages about someone can make them feel happy.

Our trip to The Old Vic

Yesterday, we visited the Old Vic to see Viviane Schwarz, who is a famous author and illustrator. During our visit, she read us one of her stories and showed us how she creates illustrations of her characters. We also helped her to write the beginning of a new story using our fantastic imagination.

Year 3's poetry about Clifford Drummond.

For Cabot's Black History week, each class learnt about a different Saint of St Pauls. Year 3 learnt all about Clifford Drummond and how he made a difference in their community. They wrote fantastic poems all about him and even included rhyming couplets!

This week in Year 3, we celebrated Black History. Our focus was the Seven Saints of St Pauls, we therefore went for a walk in our community to see some of the fantastic murals that were created by Michelle Curtis.

Mexico WOW day

We have had a fantastic start to our "Marvelous Mexico" topic. During our WOW day this week, we made Mexican dishes, learnt Spanish vocabulary, made Mexican pinch pots and had a fiesta! We all particularly enjoyed playing the pinata game and learning the Mexican hat dance during our fiesta.

Year 3 have been learning all about the Ancient Mayans; including what type of food they ate. Luckily, we had the opportunity to make our own guacamole by following a Mayan recipe!

This term Year 3 took part in French week – we learnt a game called ‘les trois tapes‘ and played the game by following the rules in French!
